History

The Anglican Parish of Lloydtown was founded in 1843 as a three point parish with St. Mary Magdalene in Lloydtown, then a busy mill town, St. Alban in Nobleton and Christ Church in Kettleby.

Remembering and celebrating the grace and mercy of God is an important aspect of Christian faith.

Thank you Bishop Geroge

At this time, the Anglican Parish of Lloydtown would like to thank the Rt. Rev. Bishop George Elliott for his dedicated service during our time of need and transition as Interim Priest-in-Charge from September 2019 to November 29, 2020. Bishop George generously led our Parish through difficult times with our beloved Rev. Sheilagh’s illness and death, and through the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have worshiped and prayed; we have enjoyed fellowship, both in-person and virtual; we have supported one another in facing all the day to day challenges of life, especially through this time of self-isolation; and we have sought to be the people of God witnessing in word and deed to the Good News of Jesus Christ. We wish Bishop George a very well deserved return to retirement. Thank you for your faith, fellowship and ministry.

The Rev. Sheilagh Ashworth

Incumbent: 2008 - 2020

It is with a heavy heart that the Anglican Parish of Lloydtown announces the passing of our beloved Reverend Sheilagh Ashworth on June 28, 2020. Rev. Sheilagh presided over St. Mary Magdalene in Schomberg, St. Alban’s in Nobleton and Christ Church in Kettleby, since 2008.

Please pray for Sheilagh’s daughters, Madeleine and Sarah, her siblings Bernie, Chris, Pat, Peter, Brian, and Genny, and for all her family. Condolences can be left on Sheilagh’s blog: HowsSheilagh.com.

Rev. Sheilagh is described as a kindred spirit by members of her parish. She gently and compassionately accepted everyone and let them know that they were beloved of God. Rev. Sheilagh exuded positivity and wonderment and had a great sense of humour. She was known for her high fives and cherished children and youth, through her children’s talks during service, summer day camp and various youth retreats. Rev. Sheilagh fostered a spiritual community and took the initiative to lead by example and encouraged others to join. Her homilies removed barriers and were delivered in an authentic manner that resonated so well with members of her parish. She made the world feel a bit brighter and more hopeful and her smile lit up the room.

Sheilagh was ordained Deacon in 1998 and Priest in 1999 in the Anglican Church of Canada.  She served as an Assistant Curate at St. Philip on-the-Hill, Unionville, then as an Associate Priest at St. Mary, Richmond Hill, and at Trinity Church, Aurora, and since 2008 has been the Incumbent of the Anglican Parish of Lloydtown: St. Mary Magdalene, Schomberg and Christ Church, Kettleby, and the Anglican Community of the former St. Alban’s, Nobleton.

At her request, anyone interested in making a donation are welcome to do so to any of the following: St. Mary Magdalene in Schomberg or Christ Church in Kettleby (email: aplloydtown@gmail.com for assistance); the Toronto Urban Native Ministries; Matthews House Hospice in Alliston; or a charity of your choice. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to send a small arrangement to a loved one and instead of offers of food, encourages any donations to the King Township Food Bank or your local food bank.

Rev. Sheilagh will be deeply missed. We were blessed to have known her and to have loved her. May Sheilagh rest in peace and rise in glory!

The Rev. Sheilagh Ashworth

Incumbent

Born and raised in a faith-based family in Toronto, Ontario, Reverend Sheilagh Ashworth pursued her studies in theology at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto, where she graduated with honours in a Master of Divinity. She was ordained in 1998, and has been active in Christian ministry and community for over 20 years. Reverend Sheilagh is a priest in the Diocese of Toronto and the Incumbent of the Anglican Parish of Lloydtown, where she preaches at St. Mary Magdalene in Schomberg and Christ Church in Kettleby. She is also the Regional Dean for the Holland Deanery and a Fresh Start facilitator, where she mentors Anglican clergy in new charges.

Prior to joining the Anglican Parish of Lloydtown, Reverend Sheilagh served as Associate Priest at Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora, St. Mary’s in Richmond Hill and as the Curate at St. Phillips on the Hill in Unionville. She was a student at St. Paul’s in Innisfil and an assistant at L’Arche Daybreak Community, where she lived for a number of years as an assistant.

Young at heart, Reverend Sheilagh particularly enjoys children’s and youth ministry. She has a natural ability to teach, participate and lead – in a fun and engaging manner. Whether it’s children’s talks during service, summer camp for kids or youth retreats on a weekend, Reverend Sheilagh fosters a spiritual community and takes the initiative to lead by example and encourage others to join. She loves preaching and applies her passion in extracurricular activities. This is most evident with the annual Schomberg Country Run, an event that Reverend Sheilagh identified as an opportunity to raise funds for clean water initiatives in Pikangikum, as well as her teaching efforts on an Indigenous unit at local grade schools.

A mom to two daughters and a keeper of bees (20 hives), Reverend Sheilagh finds time to enjoy a few hobbies that keep her healthy in mind and body, such as woodworking, wilderness camping, baseball and honey making. Happy Honey is the name of her homemade product line and is a true reflection of her outlook on life.

You are welcome to join Reverend Sheilagh on her adventures in the community and in her Christian ministry at St. Mary Magdalene or Christ Church, where you are sure to be greeted with a warm smile and an encouraging word, enlightened by the Gospel and share a good laugh or two.
